The physical living environment encompasses everything we can see and experience around us: buildings, roads, nature, air quality, noise, water and soil. There are countless rules that apply, starting with the Environment Act.

This may sound abstract, but it touches on very concrete matters such as the construction of a hotel or residential area, the transformation of an office building, the demolition of a monument, the construction of a road and the realisation of a roof structure or roof terrace.

We assist private individuals, entrepreneurs and project developers in these types of matters. Whether you want to build something yourself or object to someone else's plans, we ensure that you know your rights and defend your interests.

FAQ

When do I need an environmental permit?

An environmental permit is required for various activities that affect the physical living environment, such as construction, demolition, tree felling, environmental activities or other spatial interventions. The exact rules and conditions are laid down in the municipality's Environmental Plan. The purpose of the permit is to ensure that activities are carried out safely, sustainably and in accordance with legislation and regulations.

Can I object to a permit that has been granted or an application that has been rejected?

Yes, you can object to both a permit that has been granted and an application that has been rejected. This must be done in writing within six weeks of the decision. One of our lawyers can help you draft a well-founded objection and advise you on the best strategy.

How long does a permit procedure take?

The timeframe depends on the complexity of the project. A regular procedure usually takes eight weeks, with the possibility of a six-week extension. For complex projects, such as large construction plans or interventions with a major spatial impact, the extended procedure applies, which can take up to 26 weeks.
